Reduced Inspection Frequencies For Meat Imported From Australia And New Zealand
By Pacific Customs Brokers, CFIA Aug 04, 2020
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has reduced the frequency of inspection of imported meat shipments from Australia and New Zealand, two countries with good compliance rates for meat exported into Canada.
As of April 1, 2020, meat shipments imported from these countries are now subject to a 10% random inspection frequency at the time of importation. Meat shipments identified as not requiring inspection, also referred to as “skip lots”, may be transported directly to an importer’s warehouse/final destination upon entry into Canada.
Importers and other businesses involved in the importation of meat should direct questions about current shipments to their CFIA Area Operations Specialist.
Questions about this policy change should be directed to the CFIA Food Import Export Division at cfia.mpdimport-importationdpv.acia@canada.ca.
