Canadian Meat Exporters Irritated by U.S. Rules

The Canadian Meat Council is raising concerns about ongoing delays in shipping product to buyers in the United States.

The U.S. country-of-origin labelling program (COOL) is no longer in effect, but it can be a challenge getting meat shipments to the final destination.

An average of 77 truckloads of Canadian meat are screened by border officials every day.

"The truck is then required to stop at one of ten so-called inspection houses along the Canada-U.S. border," according to Jim Laws, president of the Canada Meat Council.

Laws says there can be delays.
