Minister Fantino Highlights Canada-Italy Trade Ties
Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada Jun 08, 2015
The Canada-EU trade agreement will benefit businesses and workers on both sides of the Atlantic
The Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, today kicked off a trade mission to Milan, Italy, where he will promote world-class Canadian products and help attract investment to Canada.
At Expo Milano 2015 and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) World Congress, the Minister will also highlight benefits of the historic Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement to both Canadian and Italian businesses.
While in Italy, Mr. Fantino will participate in a business luncheon with leading Italian business representatives. He will also visit a number of Italian firms that have expressed an interest in doing business and investing in Canada.
Quick Facts
- Italy is a priority market under Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan.
- Canadian merchandise exports to Italy increased by almost 114 percent to nearly $4.2 billion in 2014, making Italy Canada’s eighth-largest export market that year.
- Once in force, the Canada-EU trade agreement will help boost bilateral trade between Canada and the EU by 20 percent and is expected to add $12 billion to Canada’s economy. Foreign investors in Canada will have assured preferential access to both North America and the EU—a combined market of nearly one half of the world’s output of goods and services.
