New CFIA Import Requirements for Grapes and Blueberries Start April 11

Canadian Food Inspection Agency Apr 05, 2016

Update regarding the phased implementation of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s directive D-13-03 Phytosanitary import requirements to prevent the in troduction of Lobesia botrana, the European grapevine moth

On January 1st , 2016 the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced the implementation of the new directive D-13-03 to prevent the introduction of Lobesia botrana, the European grapevine moth, into Canada. However, the implementation of this directive has been delayed by the CFIA in order to support stakeholders in their transition to fulfill the new regulatory requirements. The new directive D-13-03 can be found at here.

Please find attached a notification regarding the first phase of implementation of the requirements related to Lobesia botrana (European grapevine moth) in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA's) directive D-13-03. This first phase includes the requirements for grapes and blueberries from all origins regulated for Lobesia botrana; these come into effect on Monday, April 11, 2016. A one-week period is being granted in which to meet the new requirements: any shipments leaving their country of origin before Monday, April 18 may meet the old requirements. Any shipments sent as of April 18 will be required to meet the new requirements.

For any questions, please contact Élizabeth Powles with the CFIA's Horticulture Section at 613-773-7171 or elizabeth.powles@inspection.gc.ca.
