De Minimis Limitation Increased to US$800 Effective March 11

President Obama signed the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 last week. While some of these changes will not come into effect until a bit later in the year, one in particular may be of great interest to those of you who ship goods into the United States that are valued at less than US$800.
Effective March 11, 2016, the value of goods that may be imported by one person or company per day, without the requirement of formal entry or duty is raised from US$200 to US$800. These transactions are better known as Section 321s.

It is important to note that these changes do not override any requirements for reporting to Partnering Government Agencies, i.e., Food and Drug Administration (PNSI), Agriculture, Fish and Wildlife or any other agency that requires it for subject merchandise, and that adequate permits, etc. must still be provided at the time of entry.
