Vietnam Passes India as Second-Largest Source of U.S. Textile and Apparel Imports

The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 5.60 billion square meter equivalents in June, up 4.7 percent from May and 11.4 percent from June 2014. Textile imports totaled 3.26 billion SME, down 2.1 percent for the month but up 14.3 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.33 billion SME were up 15.3 percent from May and 7.7 percent from a year earlier.
Total year-to-date imports were 30.4 billion SME, up 8.6 percent from the previous year, as textile imports jumped 10.7 percent to 17.8 billion SME and apparel imports gained 5.7 percent to 12.6 billion SME.
Imports of textiles and apparel totaled 61.8 billion SME for the year ending in June, up 7.2 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports were up 9.0 percent to 35.5 billion SME and apparel imports were up 4.8 percent to 26.3 billion SME.
With respect to specific sources, imports of textile and apparel products (except cotton and silk blend textiles) saw the following changes in June.
