Lanes Re-open On Ambassador Bridge Linking Detroit and Windsor After Truck fire Halts Traffic
By Carolyn Thompson , National Post Apr 15, 2015
A pickup truck and camper van fire on Ambassador Bridge caused hours of delays and traffic snarls along thoroughfares en route to the international crossing Tuesday afternoon.
“We just looked up and all of a sudden we saw black smoke,” said Randy Spader, manager of operations for the Canadian Transit Company.
Spader said a pickup truck hauling a trailer caught fire on the bridge while on its way to Canada just after noon. He said there was no collision and the cause was not clear. No one was injured.
Three Detroit fire trucks and Detroit police officers were at the scene, since the fire began on the U.S. side of the bridge.
The bridge was closed for about three hours as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and clear the debris from the Canada-bound lanes.
