Indicator Hit-List for 2015

Like any next-generation aircraft, the cockpit of the economy is filled with a dizzying array of dials, digits and detailed displays calling out the latest movements of this increasingly complex machine. We all wonder how the pilots and navigators keep their eyes on everything at once. They’d be quick to say that they can’t, and don’t, because essentially, they don’t need to. As in aviation, there are certain economic dials that at points in time are indispensable, and others that, while important, don’t require immediate attention. So of all the available indicators, which ones will we be watching most closely in the coming months?
Key to immediate global growth is the state of the US economy. For the moment, performance is consistently robust. But this take-off is particularly nerve-wracking, given the significant delays. It’s essential to focus on what’s coming, and we are training our sights on the US Composite Leading Indicator. In particular, we are keeping a close eye on the progress of the housing market and the orders being placed by consumers and businesses for bigger-ticket items.
